From the beginning of 2025, a tax will have to be paid at the Swiss border already on goods worth CHF 150 or more. Previously, the so-called Wertfreigrenze was CHF 300.
Here are the details of the changes to customs regulations.
From 1 January 2025, travellers will be able to bring goods into Switzerland for private use worth up to CHF 150 per person per day. Above this amount, they will have to pay tax. Previously, the Wertfreigrenze limit was CHF 300.
According to the Federal Council, the aim of this regulation change is to limit shopping tourism. In this way, the government is fulfilling the mandate of the relevant committee of the National Council and the two citizens’ initiatives. It is worth mentioning in passing that goods can be declared or rated yourself. The Swiss have a special app for this – ‘QuickZoll’.
